Hello all,
I have a 2004 or 2005 Remington 700 CDL that the pad is getting sticky. I know there was a program with Remington to replace these. I’ll bet that program is long gone. This is not one of the CDL’ s with the extra thick pad but one with the normal thickness pads. Are there any replacement pads that would fit pretty closely. I would like to have a Red Pachmayr but my gunsmith charges $150 or more but does quality work.
Thanks for your help!
Rick

Rick,
The red ones are getting harder to find and Most are going to Black like Pachmyer Decelerators , Limbsavers etc.
I think Tourbon makes some Reddish brown Pads.
You might get lucky and find a NOS pad somewhere , I will keep an eye out.
As a side note , scrub your pad carefully with acetone , keeping it away from the stock finish, and either clear silicone spray it , or Armor all it

Replaced the pad on a CDL in 35 Whelen a couple of years ago, contact Limbsaver as they were the supplier of the pads. They had a replacement that fit the stock with no grinding or fitting required. I was well satisfied with their service. Good Luck!

Pachmeyer makes a red decelerator in a medium grind to fit pad.
Do you have a stand mounted belt or disc sander?
Or a friend with one? You could buy the pad and jig and save yourself some money in the future.
I now have a jig but have done a lot of pads with out the jig.

These are good quality and pretty easy to fit since they don'tuse a steel backer. I hate doing recoil pads with a passion but these make it bearable. smile

Doesn't hurt to call limbsaver, I bought a used model 7 with a sticky pad, called them and they sent me one no charge. Worse they can say is no. All I had to do was email them a pic.

The decelerator pads are my favorite to grind. Of course I can't knock it out as quick as a gunsmith with the proper jigs, just a lot of back and forth to the gun from a belt sander. When I get close, I wrap the stock with a couple layers of painters tape, screw the pad on and finish carefully. Once you break through the first layer of tape your are good. Then I finish with a little murphys on fine sandpaper.

What’s the rubber like on these Al? Stiffer or softer compared to a Decelerator?

To me, they seem about the same. Most of the Pac's I fit are the D752B Old English style...the round off on the top doesn't snag when you bring the gun up.

Thanks Al for the link to those pads, I'll give them a try next time.
