Just heard from a class III dealer that before the E file shut down that he had 5 or 6 applications approved in 2-4 weeks. Buyers/sellers couldn't believe it. Dammit! wish I'd been in on that.

Since the temp shut down & start back up it's been business as usual. Kinda shows how fast it could be done, vs. them dragging it out. IMO.

Anybody see/hear similar?

Just got one cleared in +/- 8 weeks. I was pleasantly surprised. Dealer said one came back in 9 days.
Bet there’s some rogue atf employee(s) that got canned during the shutdown.

I had one run in 7 weeks before the shutdown. Put another one in jail today so we'll see if it has changed.

Love it so far. Ordered the direct thread base for a couple bolt guns and got 3 muzzle devices for AR for quick swaps.

I filed the paperwork and got approved in 5 days. I just picked it up with less than a week’s wait…

Before or after the EFile system shutdown?

I've heard days, not weeks for some. Particularly those filing as individuals and not trusts.

From e-Form FAQs -

Q. Has NFA Division implemented processing changes to reduce the number of pending applications?
Yes. For example, NFA Division is shifting resources to processing applications that have received a proceed from FBI-NICS in response to the required background check.

Q. Are NFA applications processed in a first in, first out basis?

No. NFA applications were previously processed in a first in, first out basis. Adhering to the first in, first out basis resulted in processing delays for NFA applications with a proceeded background check. For example, a NFA application with a proceeded background check would not be processed until a NFA application with a delayed background check was resolved. While first in, first out is a guiding principle, NFA Division will focus its resources to processing those NFA applications that have received a proceed from FBI-NICS in response to the required background check. Accordingly, NFA Division will process NFA applications as it receives background check responses from FBI-NICS. However, NFA Division will submit background checks to FBI-NICS in the order applications are received.

Q. Why do trust applications take longer to process than individual applications?
Trust applications require the examiner to perform several additional steps of review than an individual application. For example, the examiner must read each trust document to ensure it is a legitimate trust. The examiner must also read each trust document to ensure every responsible person to the trust submitted the required responsible person questionnaire. The examiner must also review each trust regardless of whether the same trust was used for a prior application because the terms of that trust may vary between applications.

I just got a rimfire can approved in 23 hours. 'submitted' ATF email yesterday at 10:53 AM, 'approved' email this morning at 9:19 AM. Funny tho, the centerfire can 'submitted' 4 minutes earlier still not 'approved'. Hopefully yet today, so I can go grab both at the same time

My lgs thinks there is an issue with them that were bought between Jan -June last year. Those in that time frame are not getting processed. He's seeing quick returns after June. I bought several in the beginning of April of last year and I am still waiting. Complete bs.

The form 4's that are coming back in a few days are at the expense of other applicants that have been waiting much longer. For some reason the ATF decides to push through a bunch of apps to the front of the line and older apps set and wait. It's no different than December and January of 22 and 23 when the E-file system was rolled out and they wanted to test it. The early e-files were run through and the older form 4's were piled up and had to wait.
