Thats goona really depend on what you are driving
But if you have a center console that goes all the way up into the dash... There have been more than a few left hand paddle holsters screwed to the side

I worked with a guy who had a leather holster strapped to his steering column with a Ruger single six in it.

Looks interesting, but not sure how that works with the seat belt.

Snaps right over it. Or just slide the belt under it.

I just use my normal every-day carry holster. However, I always felt that the best use (only for me) of a shoulder holster was as a driving holster.

If you encounter LE or medical personnel and the handgun is taken into custody by said persons the only way it can be returned is if you have a holster on your person and it was taken off of you. If on the steering column or elsewhere in the vehicle, then a receipt will be issued, the handgun confiscated until you can prove ownership.

Does that work well as a simple cross draw also?

Dont know your intent of backing it up but heres the kicker law and why I dont attach off body.
28-1212.
Presence of firearm in motor vehicle; prima facie evidence.
The presence in a motor vehicle other than a public vehicle of any firearm or instrument referred to in section 28-1203, 28-1206, 28-1207, or 28-1212.03 shall be prima facie evidence that it is in the possession of and is carried by all persons occupying such motor vehicle at the time such firearm or instrument is found, except that this section shall not be applicable if such firearm or instrument is found upon the person of one of the occupants therein.
They dont have to give it back at the scene if it wasnt found on you or if you dont have a holster to properly secure it.

I use an IWB crossdraw holsters for my fullsize and Commander length 1911s for both CC and while driving. Might be better for driving but never had a problem with either. Mine are very simple inexpensive holsters I got off Ebay from a guy in Texas. I contacted him and he custom made one for my 4 1/4" barrel Ronin, as he didn't offer for that length. I don't see how you can do much better for access, concealment, and comfort, than some sort of crossdraw like mine or the OWB one in that picture.
