That's amazing I have been thinking of going after them out of a kayak if I can find a place the caters to kayak fisherman

Apparently they used to be so plentiful that they'd net them and stack them like cordwood to burn in the winter. Their meat is very oily.

Sturgeon is delicious, especially Smoked!

We have Lake Sturgeon where I fish, no where near as big as White Sturgeon, unfortunately. If you get caught keeping one, the fine is $200,000.00 plus 5 years in Prison.

We've gone to this place a few times over the years. Before I knew much about them I was under the impression they were selling Sturgeon to the general public

A decent size Lake Sturgeon I caught a couple of years ago, I think the record where I am from is 116 lbs.

KFWA;
Top of the morning to you from a couple valleys east of the sturgeon, I hope this finds you well.

Our fellow 'Fire member EdM has fished for sturgeon in the Fraser and has posted photos of a couple dandy fish he and his wife caught.

For the life of me I can't remember off the top of my head which outfitter he recommended.

This fellow is married to a friend's sister, but I've never met him in person. He has caught some very outsized fish and put photos up on social media.

https://www.fraserriversturgeon.com/

A longtime friend and hunting and fishing partner and I have been kicking around doing a trip out west for years now. Somehow life just hasn't quite lined up to do that, but friends have done it and it comes highly recommended.

Hope that helped.

All the best.

Dwayne

What did you pay the guide for a day on the Fraser?

Them White Sturgeon get massive, I wish we had them here!

Good morning to you sir, I trust the weekend behaved and this finds you all well.

While I'm obviously not Ed, his look to be close to the 10' mark give or take - to me.

Here's a link to the story about the biggest one taken recently.

https://www.sturgeonslayers.com/news/largest-white-sturgeon-ever-recorded-on-the-fraser-river

Talking to friends who've gone where Ed was fishing, it's not super unusual to get into the 8' plus range.

All the best.

Dwayne

We went with Sturgeon Slayers as linked by Dwayne. This was our first fish, a nine foot one IIRC. We fished for three days and caught eighteen fish. Each fish was documented, length, girth in three places and chipped if needed. A hot lunch on the boat. Cost was a grand a day with up to four people allowed. Pretty reasonable. Upon strike every fish will launch straight up fully out of the water then the work begins.

Had probably a ten foot one breach next to me while I was floating down the Rogue.

Buddy of mine beached one he caught in downtown Portland about 20 years ago. He thought it went 12 feet. He was in a little aluminum boat and the only way he could get it unhooked was to take it to shore.

That sounds like a blast Ed. Incredible fish.

The Columbia, Snake, and several others on the west Coast also have “oversized” sturgeon. My biggest was 9ft when they used to still let us fish the breeding grounds right below Bonneville dam. Hooked several in the 8ft range in the Reach when salmon fishing. That wasn’t much fun.

Wow the fish referenced in the link looks absolutely prehistoric. Incredible fish indeed.
