My names in the hat! Also for a sheep tag. Somebody’s gonna draw ‘em, might be me!

New Mexico is low odds for drawing a tag and only five days to hunt. If you draw, best to have a good guide or really know your unit.

Thanks SLM, I'm just glad I got some tags.

I figured I would not get oryx, but a slim chance on antelope and elk.

Just got their email.. I guess the good news is I should have my "consolation prize" in about a week:

Quote
Unsuccessful applicants should receive refunds on credit cards over the next week. Check refunds for all other unsuccessful applicants will be processed by the end of April.

I'm still hoping for a WY cow tag.

I got Barbary Sheep and Javelina. Looking into a guide for the BS now that I have a tag in hand. Does anyone have a recommendation? Or anyone to steer clear of?

I drew a muzzleloader deer tag. Struck out on everything else. At least I can take my Hawken rifle for a walk in the forest.

I drew a 16b rifle. First time applying in New Mexico! I feel lucky but really don’t know anything about the unit!

Always failed to draw. I stopped trying. I need a more likely draw so I can plan my fall.

I prefer classic.

16B is a wilderness area with no vehicles, atv, or anything motorized allowed. You either pack in/out with horses/mules or your back.

I assume you it’s mandatory to have a guide/outfitter if you’re a non-resident?

If you don’t, hire one for this hunt. It will be well worth the investment

Did you draw through the outfitter pool, or the DIY 6%?

Rick, what are you saying in your first sentence here? It's not mandatory for a nonresident to have a guide for hunting in wilderness in NM is it?

No, you do not need an outfitter/guide.
