My Dodge Ram dissappeared, completely covered. We were trapped in the house (2 story log cabin) 6 days before we shoveled ourselves out. Denver was closed down for days and got the priority for snow plough usage which is fine, but outlining areas were coping on their own.

Quite an experience for an Aussie where snow is just another word in a dictionary.
I was living in Bailey at the time, and came home from Buena Vista early so as not to get stuck on the highway. But there have been plenty of spring storms worse than the so called "Beast" the news is trying to sensationalize. Like the blizzard of '82. We lived over by El Rancho at the time, and could not get out of our all downhill driveway for about four days; finally had to bribe a kindly dozer operator (who had come to extract a stuck CDOT snow plow) to make one pass up around and back down. The Jeep Grand Cherokee had snow impacted up under the hood so tight that the fan couldn't turn and the breather was choked.

We get our biggest dumps of snow in March and early April, and along the Front Range they're called "upslope storms" because the moisture is sucked in from the southeast and moves upslope against the mountains where it stops and dumps. Much more accumulation than the storms that blow in from the west, they dump most of it up in the mountains. A three-footer is not unheard of.

What really sucks is getting a big dump in April when some of the non-native trees that are planted everywhere have leafed out already. A foot or two of heavy wet snow on leafed out trees makes a big mess.

I just checked, it varies by basin but statewide we're at 99% of the average for this time of year. And the mountains will get a foot or two out of this storm so it will help the Colorado depending on how much more we get between now and May when it starts to melt off and how the spring goes in terms of melting and runoff vs sublimation and evaporation.

As has been mentioned, it's March in Colo., one of the snowiest months of the year. Fuel up the tractor and bring in some extra firewood and enjoy the snow. That's my plan.

I put the plow on today, rather than waiting to do it in the middle of a storm...

Good thinking!

What are the details on that old truck in the back ground?

Well fellows how's this storm shaping up?
Looks like maybe they got it right this time, tons of snow in many places.
Chain law in effect on I-25, 1st time in forever that I can remember.
I-70 closed and tons of vehicles been stuck on it since yesterday.
Foothills are getting pounded.

I hope the wet snow doesn't start pulling down power lines for you all.

Huntsman you're not supposed to get a lot of snow with this one are you? Hope you don't get a bad storm, hail or twister.
Met a great local guy in Deer Trail when we had trailer problem about 7 pm on I-70 right after Christmas one year.
Nice barn and JD, cool truck !!

Temps hovering around 30'. This chit is like concrete right outa the back of the truck.

Trees and shrubs look like chit, gonna be a lot of damage.

Fully expect to lose electricity at any time.

BTW, several flocks of Sandhill Cranes went overhead flying north yesterday ahead of this storm. Many birds, flocks 100 to 300 birds. Also one flock of short neck Canada's. Haven't noticed any Snow Geese though, but I'm I bit too far west to see many and they seem to move through at night.

I heard Sandhill Cranes take massive dumps when flying...

Some call them Super Poo birds.

Be vigilant!

Good thing it's not the dreaded Atmospheric River fueled Polar Vortex.
