I’m looking to get a tripod that allows rifle shooting while standing or sitting.
I’ve looked at the BOG tripod and like it, except it’s quite heavy, 11 pounds. They make a carbon fiber model that’s a pound lighter and $100 more.
Any comments on this tripod from “users.”
Any good alternatives?

Thanks

I looked at the bogs along time. Seems a lot of folks think they are the way to go. Especially with the ball head setup.
I ended up buying a "Neewer" brand. It’s a carbon model that goes from prone position to 60". Plus it has the ball head on it. I can’t see much difference in it and the bog other than the price. I think it weighs 5.6 lbs or close to it. I got it on sale for $99. With free shipping off of Amazon.

I also picked up the bog pod death grip vice that mounted right to the tripod with no issues. I might have fleabayed it.
I got it for maybe holding a crossbow in a ground blind, plus my spotting scope will work with it too.

I think this is where I got mine when it was on sale. It’s the one listing for $129. Model N55CR

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/neewer-tripods/ci/56997

It shows a load rating on the head at 26lbs
And the weight is 4.4 lbs

We've used these for our thermal rigs and they've been fantastic.

One bit of advice. Check your rifles POI after sighting in off a bench. It will probably be different

Thanks, for that advice, I hadn’t thought about that.

Dale,

Are you looking to use a saddle to hold the gun or utilize an arca/pic mount?

I'm fond of the Fatboy 2-section tripod with their (Fatboy) INVERT60 head – 7.5# and hell-for-stout. If sitting while hunting, I'd likely lean in favor of the 3-section version (though the 2-section works too, just need to have the legs flared more).

Some folks nearly faint at the price of the combo but anymore, I'd suffer a lesser night optic before I'd compromise the shooting platform.

I use a "Piglite" CF4 carbon fiber from Shadow Tech:

https://stores.hogsaddle.com/piglite-cf4-carbon-fiber-shooting-tripod/

with their GNN XB-44DL Ball Head

https://stores.hogsaddle.com/gnn-xb-44dl-ball-head/

A little over $600 together and slightly under 5lbs.

I've added Arca rails to my longer range hunting rifles and to my precision rifles and AR15s. I've also got their Hog Saddle, but it's got some weight to it, and just not as fast as clamping with the rail.

Leofoto does it all w/o breaking the bank, pick a model that fits your needs.

I ditched any I had with ball heads & went with leveling bases instead.

My aluminum BOG Deathgrip is advertised at 8.5 lb, and actual weight on a digital scale is 8.46 lbs.

Standard model, no ball head. It works well for my night calling.

Got it on sale at a LGS at $120 + tax. Would have liked the carbon but couldn't pass on this price.

I use the BOG Deathgrip Infinite carbon fiber. Weight is 6.5 lbs and if you take the saddle off of it and just use the ball head with an ARCA rail, it knocks another pound or more off. Very stable and smooth when shooting moving targets. It's hard for me to hunt without it now.
