Who's entitlements and welfare should we cut then?

Certainly not ours.

The single mother's food stamps?
How about starting ewith Ukraine, Israel and illegal immigrants entitlements.
This might be something we could all agree on...

No no....we have to destroy Russia...and we wouldn't want to jeopardize stock dividends.

I believe that with every fiber of my being.

May agree with that, but answer this; who raised the "losers"?

Well, that is certainly a valid point, Boomers did raise a bunch of losers...

And the losers raised the millennials ?

Reading comprehension failure alert...you must not be a Boomer

Guess I need help then. The millennials didn't have parents? Who raised them?

Each generation is a reflection ( product) of the previous one, no?
Is the current generation not responsible for raising, educating the next.?
So if what you say is true then I'll ask you again like I did yesterday. If the boomers are a generation of loosers and takers then who is responsible for bringing them up with those values?

Values lol that's funny. But since you asked it's their parents that spoiled them and gave them all they could. That set the mentality of everyone caters to them and it's still true. Nice attempt at bait thinking no one would go after the "greatest generation" they won WW2 sure, but they gave us the generation of greedy whiners we have now in the boomers.

What boomers did to succeed back in the day wasn't hard, that same strategy and work would leave you homeless these days. Y'all had everything handed to you and instead of doing the same for the next gen you said eff them. All patting each other on the back saying how tough you had it. BTW it's still boomers calling the shots in Congress, that's your legacy. Trying to blame it on the generation(s) you raised is a cop out.
And you wonder why your kids don't call or visit. Shameful.
Wasn't trying to bait, just trying to see if Jetson would follow his own line of logic. Don't agree with everything you said but at least you had balls enough to answer.

Have been following the discussion without comment but that highlighted part could use some elucidation.

Starting off, no group in America who is decently employable has had it as hard as the folks who lived and tried to make a living through the Depression, that's a given. So no generation can claim they had it the hardest compared to that.

But could you be more specific about what part of getting and keeping a job wasn't hard and what particular strategy and work was it that would leave one homeless today? Time lines would help since back in the day is non-specific.

What I'm really asking is an explanation in as much detail as you can what sea change has occurred in the job market or life in general that can be applied to populations as a whole? I worked for 45 years right up until three years ago and I haven't seen any major difference nor except for nepotism which has always existed have I seen things handed to anyone. You still have to compete against other qualified people, same as always. You still have to offer value to your employer or take the major risk of self-employment, same as always. You still have to start out with no experience in a job market filled with experienced people, same as always. I don't understand what was so easy 50 years ago that is now hard and apparently obsolete.

You accused me of saying things that I did not say, I asked you for proof.

You dodged 2 questions that I asked you.

Challenges are much different and more difficult now than they were 50 years ago. There is no question that society is more complex and life is much more expensive in this country. Back then you could buy a new car for three months pay. And you could buy a house for a years pay. And you could pay for college out of your pocket.

I would not want to be in the shoes of young people today.

Jim is correct. Most people draw more out than they put in. There are some that die young and never draw and some drop dead at age 67 and don't draw much.

I don't have any idea how old Jim is or what he is thinking but it could be that he is paying on a contract he never agreed to for a gimme program that likely won't be there for him.

Social Security at its beginning was not to furnish and finance a nice retirement. The idea was to keep old folks from starving. We all know 50 and 60 year old people that don't have a dollar saved anywhere and they would starve if not the relief system of social security.

It is a shame that most people cannot realize they will be old and unemployable at some point. They could invest what they pay into SS
and have a better retirement but they just will not do it. My wife works for an organization that matches her 401K contributions. There are about 20 people working there and she is one out of the three that participate. The others for some reason cannot see the huge boost they would get by basically buying into the market at 1/2 price. Oh well.
