I have receiver sights on all of my rifles, but have never replaced the front sights. On my Marlin 39, I really need a taller front sight, and was just wondering in general, if anybody has a preference for replacement front sights. The gold bead that comes on Marlin's seem to cover up alot of the target. This also might be a big topic, but how do you know the height of the front sight that you need? On my 39 and a Remington 141, I know that I need a taller front sight just because the elevation adjustment on the receiver sight is about maxed out.

Go to Brownell's web site and click on "Cheat Sheets", then click on FRONT SIGHT ELEVATION CORRECTION CHART and they have the info to determine front sight height. Thanks...Bill.

I like a 1/16" bead on mine. I've used Lymans on the last couple I've replaced with good luck. If you can find an old Marbles Sheard, they're my favorite!

I also like the 1/16" flat faced gold bead on mine. Marbles is topnotch and readily available. I've used Williams also, but prefer the Marbles.

For fine shooting I've always liked a 1/16" ivory bead. Shows up well in low light, and don't reflect sunlight like the gold bead.
Last few front sights I've replaced have been fiber optics. Little larger but they sure show up good for my 55 year old eyes!
Also, they're fast to pick up. They seem to just pop into view.

That skinner sights website is good, I didn't know they existed. Thanks. Thanks for the Brownell's cheat sheet page also. This is exactly why I ask questions here.
