A very cost effective build is to re-chamber a Tikka 7mm-08. All Tikkas are built on long actions so you will need to change out the bolt stop to take advantage of long action as well as buy new magazines.
Internet analysis: 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact Fools & fanatics are always so certain and wise people are always so questioning

If I were to build a 284 win, it would be on a short action. Why build one on an action long enough too house a 280 rem or a 7mm rem mag? If I were to use a long action, it would probably be chambered in 280 and, most likely, AI as well.
BTW, my 284 win is a short action (Ruger m77) and I love it!

That is the good thing about the Tikka, it could be used in either format, short of long. I have been thinking of rechambering my 7-08 tikka to 284 because I have two other 280 and 2 more 280 ai. I dont need any more of them, but a nice Tikka Superlight in .284 able to seat the long bullets would be pretty nice. I have been thinking the same thing about a 6mm off of a .243. I have a couple 240 Weatherby rifles so I dont need a 6-06, but a 6mm or 6 ai on a Tikka Superlight would be a nice hunting rifle. I guess it is kind of doing stuff just to do it.....

I’ve got some customs that possibly could Relocate. Let me know more specifics on what you’re looking for. Thanks

Joining the "gots," I've got a NIB Ruger 77 Red Pad, tang safety in 284 Winchester. $2,650 plus shipping and insurance in hard case. To add to the buy, I've got multiple factory Winchester boxes with 10% discount to the buyer. $60/box. Additional NIB Ruger 77RS Carbine in 358 also available w/o ammo availability. $2,950 plus shipping and insurance in hard case. PM please.

Find a rem 700 in a LONG ACTION and slap a 24 inch sporter barrel in it. Have it throated for 168 bergers and take advantage of that case. A shorty would work well with 120s and you'd jump a 140 a bit, but that case design in a long action is a thing of beauty.
The tikka idea is a good one, but 1100 dollars later you could have had a custom barreled action.
And it'll never beat a 280.....but I get the cool factor of a 284 win. My 2 cents.
