I was looking at some Victorinox kitchen knives on Amazon. One model came in two types: regular packaging, $57, and frustration free packaging, $70. Is it worth $13 to not have to use power tools to open a package?

FRUSTRATED PACKAGE

The morons responsible for setting up the heat seal machines don't seem to get the idea that the package only needs to be sealed not fused. Frustrating in the extreme especially food packaging !

FFP is shipping from a different vendor thus the price difference. FFP was supposed to be cheaper but like all stupid woke assed ideas...

It's done intentionally to mitigate loss prevention at a retailer. Duh.

RockChuck - Santoku is my favorite kitchen knife. That looks like a nice one.

Packaging is designed around client requests and frustrating packaging, is designed to prevent old school theft whereby packaging was opened and products put in cheaper cartons to scan or simply drop into the pocket.

Won't have to worry about it much longer as thieves have evolved into store raiders, rushing the stores en mass and stuffing bags and sacks with everything they an get hold of. Soon they will be behind locked glass doors.

The world has changed and packaging is just one clue out of many.

RC, That is a good looking knife.

Last year I bought 16 pieces of WÜSTHOF for our 40'th anniversary. It includes a small and large santoku. They are a couple of my favorite knives. I often use one of them when slicing 2 lb blocks of cheese.

We're remodeling the kitchen. I was thinking about getting a few good knives along with it. Most of what we use daily are old meat boning knives that I've collected over the years. They're good steel but aren't designed for the job.

Every kitchen needs a good chefs knife, a serrated bread knife, a couple paring knives, a good boning knife or filet knife, and a roast carver at a minimum. The santoku is a useful addition as well.

Actually the "Chicago Cutlery" SS are a pretty good knife for the price. They got us by for forty years. These Wustof are in another class entirely, but so is the price tag.

I have a couple old Chicago knives that I bought when I was in college in the 60's. They've been good knives but boning knives aren't the best for all kitchen uses.

I've read that China has an entire industry just making packaging. They must have PhD's designing packages that can't be opened by the average homeowner.

We have one of these and I started giving them away as Christmas gifts. They have been well received.
