Home Forums Reloading Big Game Rifles Moderate loads for the 7mm Remington mag?

Picked up a fairly rare Ruger #1 from the 1st year of production, which has a 22" barrel. Most of the manuals I've read only show the slow burning powders, and I'm not really interested in pushing this rifle very hard. There are also the old stories about lighter charges of slow burning powders, giving erratic results.

Can someone suggest some good loads, that will drive 140s-150s at 2700 fps, or so?

Can't get you down to 2700, but 62gr of IMR4350 under a 150gr NBT is very accurate in my boat paddle M77 at 2890. I use RL22 with the same bullet to get 3100.

Couple things, I use H1000 with 162 eld match and x's. I been reloading for a few years now for all of my 308's and just started playing around with my 30+ year old Browning Abolt II Medallion. I was trying to see what I could get out of it velocity wise then tune the load with my BOSS system. I'm at 71g H-1000 at .311 MOA, but waiting on my chrono to come back to get speeds. I'm guessing I'm close to 3000. The difference is your at 22" which will make speeds slower in itself. You'll also have to hope in finding an accurate node at lower speeds as well.

I have had good luck with H4831 and Hornady 139 Interlocks. Just checked my data, last 10 shot string averaged 2883 fps.
Load= 139 Interlock, 62gr of H4831, WLRM primer. Group= .755. 100 yards.

Any of the 4350’s around 55-58 grains and a 150.
If you have 4895 you can easily achieve what you want.

I’ve had good results in accuracy and terminal effects with Nosler’s 160 Accubond and 58 grs of IMR 4350. It gives around 2900 fps.
