Just turns it's head left or right...can actually inspect it's rear feet by twisting around and then lifting rear foot to scratch it's face, will occasionally lick just at the hoof...testing it's inter-digital output?

Yes. It’s eyes are spread wider than a horse.

How much of a grass belly does it have?

Usually..but they can always see YOU behind them.

A mule will work hard for ten years - for an opportunity to kick you ONCE! Only if you abuse them. They do hold a grudge and have a memory like an elephant. If the want to kick you they won't miss. Watch a bunch in herd dynamics. Very seldom do they kick each other. Some times they will throw a foot out as a warning, but not touch you. My wife had a mule that would do that when any man walked past. I have only had two mules out of 40-50 that would kick. One was 7-8 years old and came out of a herd of 75 that had not been touched except castrated and branded. The other was one that had been treated rough when some one started her on shoeing. She would hurt you bad. I don't know if they can actually see their back feet when they put them down, but they sure never put them down where they should not. Walking, their backs usually are put down pretty close to where there fronts landed.

If God wanted you to walk and carry things on your back, He would not have invented stirrups and pack saddles

My dad talked more about farming with mules, than horses.

I've read that a mule can see 350 degrees. Of course the other 10 degrees is straight back. To see it's back feet, the eyes would have to be at least as wide as the shoulders and the belly and they aren't. It doesn't have to turn it's head very far to see them, though. A donkey has wider eyes than a mule and it can't see them, either. I couldn't find a straight on shot of a mule but look at this donkey. His eyes aren't wide enough to see around his belly.

That is ASSuming it doesn’t lower or turn its head at all. Yup Of course they'll turn their heads. But that wasn't the OP's question. The old story is that a mule can see them while it's head is straight forward and it can't. It's one of those old wives' tales.

The one thing I can say for myself is I certainly can feel the back foot hit the ground when on a mule.
I can’t say that is obvious to me riding a horse.
Never been on a llama.
