Looking for a gunsmith to cut/thread a few rifle muzzles and install collars to allow for good shoulder contact. The usually recommended sources of Ecco Machine and ADCO are not taking rifle barreled action threading jobs at the moment. Looking for someone to do something like this on a couple of 0.625"+ OD barrels to allow for 5/8x24 threads.

Contact Jim Kobe in Bloomington Mn. He might do that for you. He just threaded a barrel for me, but not with the collar you reference.

Not sure why a gunsmith is required for a simple job. Any machine shop in your area can do this with a drawing and/or the can.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

And since the subject has been raised...Greydog, or a T&D maker, help me out here...IMO someone wasn't thinking when they started this whole screw on brake/silencer craze. If we can agree that concentricity and alignment with the bore is paramount to accuracy...why did they standardize (as far as I know) on a square shoulder? Even with class 3a and 3b thread fit (which a recent job on a Vanguard taught me is NOT the case), there is quite a bit of room for error.
As easy as it would be...why didn't 'they' go with something like a fast taper, 16 deg or such, for a shoulder...would that not be much more precise?
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I would be very surprised if a machine shop would touch a firearm or gun part. None in my area will work on them, too much liability, but, this is NYS. Maybe different in more normal (rational) parts of the world.

Some good suggestions here, folks. I will do some inquiring and see who is taking on new work. Many thanks.
I will add that I've had good service so far with Morgan at Class III Machining in Texas for barrel threading projects on other barreled actions, but he does not offer the threaded collar/shoulder option.
