I bought a bag of 3 that looked close, and modified this one to fit the wood and metal. The wood portion was too large, so I squeezed it in to fit and held it there while I plunge milled the barrel portion from .670 to .740" and it fits pretty well. I have a couple tool marks to remove, and the screw is too long so I will cut 3 threads off it, then reblue it all. Interestingly, all 4 of the bands I bought, including a 336 Marlin, were for a .670 barrel and my orphan barrel is .740". This is the only one that had enough meat around the barrel to allow such brutal milling. I did not want to recontour my barrel, especially after reboring it to .358".

My search for a better buttstock continues, and I probably should expand it from just H stocks to any straight grip carbine stock.
