Just that. If you have light one, please tell me why. Barrel length, contour , wood , etc.

Probably the lightest are the skinny forearmed conversions by Renner where he removes the ejector parts to slim the forend, and removes bunch of wood from the butt as well.

Maybe a factory RSI in something like .243 Winchester or .257 Roberts?

Funny you should mention that... wink

This started life as a Lipsey's special Ruger 1A in .250 Savage with 24" barrel, this is what it looked like after Roger Renner worked on it. Everything but the rear sight is still factory OEM, he just recontoured the wood. Weight is 6 lbs. 13 ounces, he didn't remove the ejector on this one.

Here's a pic of his "Ultra-Light" model, weight is 5.6 pounds.

I can tell you that the .475 Turnbulls weigh about 7½ lbs, less scope. That's despite having a 26" C weight barrel. The .475 bore lightens thing quite a bit, for a heavy caliber rifle. It's also very accurate.

My No. 1-A in 250 Savage (24" bbl) was < 7 lbs before I put a scope on it.

Not a #1 but a #3 three redone. I’d call it a 1 contour at 22”, slim forearm. Weight, 7.25 lbs with a 3.5-10 Leupold.

Granted there's rings, a scope and a sling, but I was genuinely surprised to see how NOT light my .243 RSI was.

Yes, and the older you get , the heavier it will seem. Ruger no1’s are heavy. That was the purpose of this thread. I have a no1 that someday I will restock as it feels like a club. I am also considering turning down the barrel a tad. Thanks for sharing your findings!

Purely a guess - and I never weighed any of the #1s I've owned - but I would say perhaps one of those pencil-barreled #1s like the 25/06 AH, the #1 AB, or maybe the RSI in 30/06. I think the RSI in '06 is the same contour as the .243 RSI, but since it has a bigger hole in the barrel, less steel. I still remember the day in the 80's I had a chance to pick up a #1 RSI in 30/06 for $350 NIB. Glad I'm not flexible enough to kick myself. I've skipped on many such a deal over the decades.

I think Lennard Brownell wanted to scallop the side of the action, amongst other things, to make a light weight No. 1. Covered in JD Clayton’s book.
