I fixed a litlle cheapie single shot Savage-Springfield a couple weeks ago that was misfiring.

There was so much varnished “gunk” in the channel that the firing pin traveled in (60 year-old oil turned to varnish, and old powder residue) that it wasn’t moving well. Flushed it out with cleaner, then re-oiled.

I’d look at cleaning the thing well (take the bolt out and clean it/soak it), then consider whether the spring is weak or if the firing pin is possibly broken.

I totally rebuilt mine. Go to Numrich, and see if they have any firing pins and springs. Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace other springs as well, and check the extractors too. Mine were all worn out. Sounds like your hammer spring and firing pin may be worn out though. If yours needs a firing pin, check to make sure you know which one it requires, before you order. They have different variations. Numrich also has schematics you can buy, and pictures of the different parts. I'd check everything, and replace everything that looks suspect or weak. They are pretty easy to work on, and exceptionally accurate/precise shooters. Good luck with it..

When I was young I had a Mossberg 340K that would do the same thing. My dad tried to claim the rifle belonged to him and not me so I never bothered trying to fix it
