What was his reason? he was loosing the Vietnam war that he escalated our e nvolvment, with combat troops ,not just advisers like JFK.North Vietnamese Tet Offensive started January 30, 1968 shocking the American people ,who were led to believe before this we was winning .,they lost confidence in him

It was actually his health. Johnson's team had been quietly letting people know for months that his health was not good and that he was not planning to run again.

Johnson escalated to 560,000 troops. The war was built on a lie. Johnson got the military to fabricate the Tonkin Gulf Incident, so that Congress gave him the authority for the massive escalation.
