82 years ago last Dec. He was just a kid of 19 or 20.

Yep. The Greatest Generation indeed. My aunt, by marriage, lost her brother at Pearl Harbor.

Prayers sent for the survivors of Lou Conter. Let US never forget - but forgive our past enemies.

May he Rest In Peace. His death saddens me and the history that dies with these great men cannot be replaced. What they faced and endured wouldn't be repeatable today.

30 years ago at a church layman’s retreat, they told up that we were losing an average of 90’WW2 veterans every day. I remember that because my own Old Man was a WW2 veteran. Dad’s been gone 14 years next month. I’d hate to guesstimate the rate now, I imagine it’s lower, because we’re running low on WW2 veterans.😟 (I believe all that flew on the B-25s from The Hornet are gone as well.) I can’t say about Korea. I knew one older guy who carried a BAR as a Marine, but he went home 2 years ago. He was a fellow gun nut, and a good friend. One thing that strikes me, hopefully will you too. We’re not losing any veterans of the 2nd American Revolution yet. We’re losing the United States instead. The third most important blessing of my life is being strangled by foreign pimps and domestic whores! If I die without securing this wonderful heritage for my kids and theirs, they can spit on my grave. Just thought it needs to be said!😟

End of an era. I am old enough to have clear memories of WW II, even though I was a little kid. Riding our tricycles singing the Marine Hymn. Drawings of the Enterprise in action. Air raid drills, rationing, victory gardens.
As we matured, we developed huge respect for veterans, were in awe of them. Truly the Greatest Generation.
If it was his wish, I hope this sailor can be interred aboard the Arizona. Would be highly appropriate.
Stupidity has its way, while its cousin, evil, runs rampant.
