Sqweeler: NO.... the Remington 700 Classics in 22-250 Remington were offered from 1978 THROUGH 1985!
The "chosen" Remington 700 Classics "for the year" started in 1981 - so for 7 years (1978 - 1985) the original 6 calibers (including the 22-250) were offered.
Then in 1981 they added a "chosen" caliber for the year.
Then in 1985 they ceased offering the original 6 calibers and just ONE caliber per year was offered until production of the Remington 700 Classics ceased.
An interesting fact for Remingtonophyles - the rarest Remington 700 Classic caliber came in 2,005 with the 308 Winchester (1,479 made)!
And the highest production single year offering in the Remington 700 Classic was, in the surprising to me, 35 Whelen caliber (8,805 made)!
I think my favorite Remington 700 Classic offering was/is the 222 Remington (and as I own two of these there are only 2,019 OTHER Remington Classics out there in this caliber).
And January 1984 is indeed the correct date of manufacture for that Remington Classic.
