I have my set from the Air Force and my original set from Army basic (1980). When my Infantry unit was mobilizing for DESERT STORM everyone got a new set. I knew the guy running the dog tag machine and he made me an extra tag I put on my chain. It read:

IF YOU ARE
RECOVERING MY BODY
[bleep] YOU

It was funny at the time, a bit of hubris I suppose

Yes, from US Navy boot camp at Great Lakes in early 1987.

I also have my dad’s, from when he was in the navy in the 1950s.

Yep. From FLW Basic 1971, hanging on the Hanger with the Dress Green Jacket I was mustered out in. In '73,(Ft Dix) before I left Germany, Augsburg, they made me exchange my Professionally Tailored Wool Winter DGs for the flimsy Summer Greens. Supposedly to "re-issue". And "no" I can't put the jacket on anymore! ha I also got put in the Texas Nat'l Guard(Beaumont).

Mine yes, and several sets of my dads. I served from 1976 to Dec 31st 1982. Dad served from 1948 to 1974. Marine Corps for 10 years and then Air Force for 16 years. He was a pilot most of his time, except when he was young and sent to Korea in Nov 1950 from Japan. The Korean War ended on his 21st birthday in 1953. He had been in constant combat from Nov 1950, to July 27, 1953. He ended up by attrition leading a Marine Long Range Recon Unit. He went to Korea weighing a 160 pounds of fighting weight.... the day of his 21st Birthday, when the war ended... he weighed 95 pounds.

He just passed this past October 31st, 2023. November 2 would have been his 92nd birthday.

Sorry for your loss Mr Sea- you joined "the Club no one wants to join"....Mine left this earth back in 2001, also in October, the 6th. He fought the Japanese with MacArthur's Army, all the way to Okinawa. I am an only child, so was very close. He was my Hero, as I am sure your Dad is to you. When I went down to Texas to be with him, and I was, on his last night on earth. Some of my cousin's heathen young'uns had got into his treasure box and took all his ribbons, Battle Stars, 4 Bronze Stars and his dog tags. I found his Journal and some photos in another stash. Men who's names he never told me about. He wrote a little until his first bombing in New Guinea. He stopped writing until on the ship home, after Okinawa. He said all his tour, he was bombed a total of 18 times. Then again in Ft Lewis, "Today I am a happy boy! I am discharged!"...ha, we know that feeling a bit, don't we? God bless you and your Dad's Service! Real men they were...

I still have multiple sets and my originals from 1978.

Seems like every deployment they gave us a new set as part of the process.

Never served, but I have one of Dad's from 1942-46. My brother has the 2nd one.

I still have one. Somewhere along the line, one "disappeared." I haven't the faintest idea what happened to it. Issued to me in Basic Training, March, 1959, at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.
