Gents,

Would a standard sporter from the late 60s (chambered in 243) have enough at the end of the barrel to handle a rebore to 358?

Thanks y'all.

IIRC, I seem to remember that the barrel had to be something like 5/8" at the muzzle. I used to have a Winchester M70 standard sporter in .243 and I think it would have qualified for the rebore to .385. It's been gone for a while. You might check with JES's website and see if the info is there. I do have a few .358s including two Ruger M77s and the barrel wall at the muzzle are pretty thin.

Absolutely. Alllll day long.

For some reason folks think you need a ton of barrel to do it, Jess will do some mighty light barrels.

My two JES donors were both 30-06s, so it wasn't really an issue. I did have a Rem 600 in 243 that he wouldn't do, but I think it was because the vent rib connection allowed even less tolerance.

Post 64 barrels are still pretty beefy. I'd bet you are right. Probably not an issue at all for JES to rebore that .243 to a .358.
