Who buys em?
Seems like I see guys with a fistful of $1 scratches on job sites at lunchtime pretty frequently, got me to wondering how often people actually win. Obviously there are far more losers than winners, but it has to be working out for somebody who buys them, right?

Last I heard, Louisiana pays out $1 for every $8 "invested".
A 12.5 % return in a way. They never have disclosed an average -87.5 % return in their ads. I have known people that buy $50 worth a day.

I do not but there is the special place in hell for idiots who buy them, then sit there at the counter and scratch them off. Oh wow - won a buck - give me another and rinse/repeat while the line stacks up behind during lunch rush.

I’ve never bought one. But I know a lot of people that buy lots of them. And quite a few of these buyers really can’t afford to piss away $10-50 a week. Some of these people have won a few bucks at times, but I know nobody that’s “ahead” or remotely close.

When they were first available about 30 years ago I would buy one everyday on my way home from work.
After 30 days I had won two bucks and have not bought a scratch off ticket since

About 30 years ago when the state first started its own lottery, we played it a few time. We are not gamblers at all, but tried it anyhow. Won about $5,000 and took a nice vacation to Hawaii. Haven't played it since.

Our lottery funds here in Virginia supplement the school budgets. I have a friend (Marco) that won a million... IIRC. You might know him from VAGT...

Or the [bleep] who spends 15 minutes looking at them all asking question than finally buying a boatload when you know damn well he/she knows all of them. For us it's the elderly. I never got into them, I also don't play Powerball, etc either.

One friend told me that people would come in drunk and buy a bunch of tickets, scratch them in the car and throw them in the parking lot. Others customers would walk by and pick them up and frequently find winning tickets
