I think most here missed the heading.
How many who responded are guides, cullers, or international hunters?

I don’t know the answer but it seems like high velocity equates to more violent and immediate kills. The deer I’ve killed with my 257 Roberts and 100 SGKs have all been very quick with what seemed like no physical reaction from the deer. One exception was a whitetail buck that I shot at about 280 yards through the lungs. I attribute that to the reduced velocity at impact. All the others were 150 yards or closer and in each case the bullet didn’t exit and the deer was seemingly stone dead by the time I recovered from the mild recoil of the 257.
I try to use cup a core bullets for deer and pigs for sake of cost, and match the bullet weight to the cartridge so that my velocities are more modest. My 257 and 270 Win are the only two that are pushing 3000 fps or more, (well, and a 300 WM with 165 SST, very explosive and not recommended), but I seem to get more runners with the 270. That might be me, but my hits seem to be similar. My take is that the 130 SGK is a particularly stout bullet for the GameKing line.
Plenty of other rounds I have used knock deer down at the shot as well, but seemingly with less authority and shock as the high velocity and rapid expansion of the 257 and 300WM that I mentioned. I rarely knock a deer flat with a 30/30, unless it’s a neck shot.

Only culling I have done was in South Africa at night mostly on impala and blesbok. All of them died right now, head shot with 120 grain older 100 per box Nosler Ballistic tip .264 bullets started at about 3000 fps. 55 grain .224 Ballistic tips out of a 22-250 worked just as well.
One thing I have noticed is that high velocity and soft bullets through heart and lungs seem to kill quicker than harder bullets pushed to the same velocity in my opinion. Not deader, just dead faster.
As an example I'll reveal my age. Hunting wide oak brush canyons for deer in my young age our hunting group used 300 magnums mostly. Shortly after Hornady went to the interlock everyone in our party noticed that deer were running after being hit at a much higher rate than before the bullet change. All but 1 guy went to either Sierra 180 SP's or Remington Core locks. It seemed to fix the runners but we threw away lots of bloodshot meat. My deceased wife made 11, 1 shot kills with her 30-338 on her first trip to Africa with Corelocks at 3050. The PH was very happy.
