Minnesota livestock growers on high alert as bird flu has jumped to cattle in three other states

Bird flu has jumped to cattle for the first time in the United States and recently infected a dairy worker in Texas.

Agriculture officials in Minnesota are watching closely for infections in the state’s cattle herds and dairies, while public health officials continue to say the risk to humans remains low and pasteurized milk remains safe.

“I’d be surprised if it isn’t here already [in cattle],” said Dr. Joe Armstrong, a University of Minnesota Extension livestock educator.

The ongoing highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak began in 2022 has resulted in the mass culling of turkeys and chickens across the state whenever an infection is found. Although evidence suggests the fast-spreading disease is not lethal in cattle, Armstrong said Tuesday federal and state officials are working with farmers and veterinarians to keep animals safe.

There are no reports of HPAI in cattle in Minnesota. Last week, dairy cows and their milk in Texas and Kansas tested positive for the virus. By Friday, a dairy herd in Michigan that had received cows from Texas also had sick cattle.

It’s just going to raise prices. I just seen something on tv, if the meat is cooked , it can’t hurt you. I would give this meat to Gaza Strip. We waste too much because of law suits .

Our bio labs have been working overtime, I guess. The food supply is the target.

I reckon we had better set up some emergency mobile hospitals and morgues. Vaccines (which will function much like normal saline) will be forthcoming. For some reason, I have trouble believing.
I notice that Dr Joe Armstrong is said to be a "livestock educator". I wonder just how much he can teach a cow. Maybe his students just resemble livestock. GD

Gee, I guess we're going to have to start eating those bugs.

Surely they aren't using that same test that they have publicly admitted, (then buried or scrubbed from the CDC website shortly after), that can't tell "covid" from the flu or common cold.

Think.
It's not illegal, yet.

Now they can push even harder against real milk and real meat. Of course most of the range that raises cattle won't support any crops except the grasses, clovers, and brush that cows eat. I guess we can turn that over to the wolves and wild horses and donkeys. The people out in Nebraska and Wyoming that raise the cattle can move to a city and live in a high rise apartment and according to Kamala the electric trucks will bring them everything they need and the electric buses will take them to Walmart.
