Looks great..maybe with the LH start, it could be a ProMac 10-10. If not froze up, could bring bucks on Ebay. A lot of us old fools still love these things.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Mine was certainly painted the right color; lemon yellow. The last straw was when I went out in the hinterland with my saw buck and McCullough to cut firewood and the thing wouldn't start. A big Husqvarna and a small Stihl have been perfect ever since.

"Bearcats" to start in my experience. Much better options out there.

Now give me an old "vintage" enduro kart w/ one or two McCulloughs on the back AND a battery powered belt starter/set-up and I would likely be interested!!!

Simple Green and a few paper towels will clean that right up.

Still have one with about a 20-inch bar from around 1982. I think it's a 625 model. Great little saw that starts on the 3rd pull. Had a larger one that finally bought the farm last summer when two of the main bolts holding things together sheared. If I had a well-equipped shop, drills, and easy outs, I maybe could have saved it. If memory is correct, it was $250 new. Given 30+ seasons of use, it was like losing an old friend. With two larger Stihls and the single Mac left though, I'm still confident going to the woods.

I have found clutches/sprockets etc online in recent years, so with enough searching, one may still turn up parts. About 10 years back the region where the handle attaches cracked on my now retired unit. I quizzed a neighbor that's famous for packing off all the unsold stuff at auctions, and he had about 10 heads. Dropped 3 off and said, " take what you need," and I was able to salvage it.

Good luck,

Those damn things and Poulan chainsaws. My dad never was of the buy once cry once mentality. I don't know how many cords of wood we suffered through using those damn things. For his anniversary as soon as I could afford it I bought him a stilhl farm boss. 2 paychecks to pay for it. His eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas when he buried it into the first log

Ran up and down the mountain on the Jackson Wyoming ski area with a Mc Cullough 450 while working on the trail crew, one hell of a tough saw cut a lot of big spruce trees, if you got it real sharp it would throw spaghetti not saw dust. wish i was still in that kind of shape. Rio7

Yes, I have a big yellow beast !!

Have not run it, in about 10 years, since we stopped heating with wood.

It would make short work, of 10 cords of 8' Birch.

My husky is much lighter, so easier for yard & trail work.

My dad had one of those yellow saws. By the time it was started we were too tired to use it. If you did use it. After one tank of gas it wouldn't restart until it cooled off completely.
Took it to a couple of saw shops and spent more than the stupid thing cost for the same result.

My dad threw one off in a holler about 45 years ago. I'm fairly certain it's still there if you get in a bad way.

Wabbs started a thread about this same McCullough saw, same modus operandi about a year ago.

Reel in RUBES to pay him some ‘Old Man Attention’ .
