Hi Everyone

Is it ok for you guys to share your load data with Big Game Powder for the 8 x 57JS? I have one pound that I have been saving for a special project. I sure would like to hear from all of you on the loads. I checked the Nosler loading data and was not impressed. Charlie's 2,750fps got my attention. I just need the load data. Hope you all are enjoying the mild, nice spring weather. Tennessee has been very nice this spring.

Mine has been published not only in Handloader magazine, but two of my books, The Big Book of Gun Gack II and Gun Gack IV, The Little Book of Rifle Loads That Work.

Another hint: It's the maximum load for 175-grain bullets listed on Hodgdon's website.

Glenn,

Thanks! Am not planning on totally retiring--if ever. One of the good things about freelance writing is the amount of "work" can be easily adjusted....

Am still writing the rifles column for Sports Afield for the foreseeable future, along with an occasional feature article, and at least three articles for each issue of Rifle Loony News, which appears quarterly on our website, riflesandrecipes.com. In fact we're still planning on publishing a paperback collection of The Third Five Years of Rifle Loony News this year. It's hard to believe we've been doing RLN for 15 years....

John

Thanks John! I enjoy your work because it is a result of actual experience and the ability to interpret what has just happened in the hunting fields. Of things I value most in life, experience and dependable people I value the most.

My loads in 8x57 are nearly identical to Johns. Big Game works very well in 8x57. I have gotten the most consistent pressure, speed, and accuracy compared to any other powder I have tried in this caliber.
I have used 180 Barnes and Ballistic Tips and 200 grain Partitions. The Partitions are my favorite load. Is it better ? No, but at one time I had about 2000 of those bullets, making it my favorite !
I've had best luck using WLR or WLRM primers. Others will work, but these seemed to work best with what I had.
Dont be afraid to use the 180 Ballistic Tips on big game. It has a tough/thick jacket, it works good. At 2700 fps or so, it will expand and penetrate just fine. Course the other two bullets I listed will work fine too.

Thanks Charlie!

The 8 x 57 JS is under rated and should be used more.
However, we have the 30-06. I am now having fun with my latest project with the 8 x 57JS. We'll see what can be done with my old Mauser

My CZ 557 w/24" barrel shoots fairly well with great velocity. I've had good results with H4895.

180gr Barnes TSX.

This load shoots 2750-2780 fps in my Sauer's, Tikka T3x, and Zastava m98 (all 22")
