Never let weather keep me from turkey hunting! I've killed turkeys in pouring rains, gale force winds, sleet, heat. You name it!

Skies were cloudless here in south eastern VA. No wind at 330am when I parked, but by about 630am the trees were creaking. Never saw a bird, never heard a gobble, and never heard a shot. Left around 10am.
I've got 3 week days off next week, and 4 more week days off in May before season closes. I'll try again those days.

I like the wind, because I think it narrows down where the birds will be. I think they tend to take shelter from the wind in thick stuff where they can get some shelter. I hunted a pine thicket yesterday but unfortunately, it's not the only pine thicket, and the one I hunted is huge. The downside was that the pine pollen was horrific. I was having to clear my throat constantly, even with a half-mask. I did take my homemade slate call with me. Have to say, it sounded decent. Had some good volume, too. The hickory striker works best. I'm going to rely on it all season.

Wind blew like crazy friday night in Carroll Co. Looked out the window before daylight and it was calm. Got dressed and stepped out on the porch right at daylight and 3 were gobbling from the roost close by. I headed toward a field close by as that's where I knew one would be headed. Didn't take long and 2 big mature Toms came in the field with a bunch of hens. Got them to answer back several times but they weren't leaving the hens and finally followed them in the other direction. Headed back toward the cabin and heard one just on the other side of the cabin. I sat on the ramp of my shed and called a little. Here come 2 immature birds coming straight to me. I just watched until they got within about 10 yds and saw me. Fun morning. About 1 1/2 hours after daylight winds were 30 mph!
