All:
When did 1899As short rifles with 22 inch barrels come with a TD feature? Murray says 1917 I think but the longer 26 inch 1899As were available with the TD in 1909, and again, according to Murray. I had my hands on an 1899A short rifle with a 1910 serial number with a TD feature and in beautiful condition. All numbers match. Would a letter help or were the length of the barrels not given?
I know I have seen them in 303 around the same period, and with a TD feature. So this isn’t the only one. Anyone else have or seen one??
God bless, RAS

Murray got that totally wrong.
1899A SR's got the takedown option as soon as it came out, summer of 1906. Mass production started around serial number 70.000.
1899A's also got it then. The 1899H didn't get takedown until later in 1910 around serial number 110,000.

As a note, it was not uncommon for the very early SR's to have a crescent rifle butt plate vs a shotgun plate that was standard on the later. The SR's are well identified in the log books.
