That last one you mentioned happened in Beckley WVa, Raleigh County. That is where my grandmother was from, and there are a zillion people there I am related to. A 'funny thing' about that is a bomber had a problem that crashed and killed the pilot and bombardier. They happened to be from over here in Medford in Jackson County, the next county from where I live here in Oregon.

I came across a memorial back in West Virginia near Beckley where the bomber crashed, and it mentioned that they were there to intimidate coal miners during a Strike. It was a memorial for the crew that was from Medford OR, 25 miles from where I live now.

I grew up in Metro DC, Northern Virginia. Folks worked for the Government their entire careers. Mom for 60 years total, and my step Dad, was a retired AF Colonel for 26 years, and then after a brief retirement, worked for the State Dept as USAF representative for the United State for SEATO for another 24 plus years. He just passed in November at 93 y/o.

They taught me not to respect the Federal Government back in the early 70s when I was in college. They were in positions to be able to inform me, WHY to not respect those who run the Federal Government and abuse the power they are given, for personal and political reasons.

Robert Byrd of WVa was my grandmother's first cousin. Al Gore Senior was my step dad's Uncle, and Al Gore Jr, his first cousin...Al Gore' Seniors wife, was sister to my grandmother on that side of the family. I'm also related to Mark Meadows on my mom and Grandfather's side. Mark Meadows is a carbon copy of my Grandfather in looks.

Its not the government I was taught to distrust, it was the politicians I was taught not to trust.

Of course there are legitimate military uses for this technology. Those would include:
Stopping the Chinese invasion of Alaska as they try to grab those oil reserves.
Confronting those who would attack America's economic interests around the globe.
Suppression of insurrection.

Have we learned nothing from watching military action against the civilian population through the last 200 years. Was there not military equipment, manned by military personnel in Waco?

How many times has the military been called in to control a "Militia Group".

Every police force in the nation is outfitting itself with military grade hardware up to and including APCs as fast as they can acquire them.

LOL, am I still "on about this?" First, if you actually read the posts you'll see that local dirt asked me a direct question. The thing to do when someone asks you a direct question is to answer it. If that's OK with you, of course.

Second, you're the one who started the thread by implying that F-16s were being retrofitted for the primary purpose of dropping bombs on American Citizens which (once again) has never happened, and is not the case.

Third, you cited a few examples of military action against civilians, none of which involved the subject of this thread (you started) which is F-Fùcking-16s.

Fourth, if you actually read my post, I asked local dirt why the US government wouldn't use much easier and cheaper ways to take military action against civilians, if that was their objective. And your retort was to cite a few of those much easier and cheaper ways the US government has used to engage civilians.

Uh....noooo! I did definitely not state the primary purpose of the conversion was for dropping bombs on civilians.

Just so you do not have to scroll back up to see for yourself again, this is the pertinent part of the post:


Paragraph one: I specifically mention the PRIMARY purpose of the program. Drone wingman for attack or air to air engagements. They serve as sacrificial lambs to protect living pilots. They carry additional weapons, without the need for additional pilots.

Paragraph two: "What could go wrong?" This has been a grave concern among legislators and military brass since the original concept of autonomous weaponry was envisioned.

If the wrong target is attacked, there is no human in the cockpit to see the mistake and correct it.

Third Paragraph: I mentioned the possibility of drones being used to attack American Citizens. It was actually more than a bit tongue in cheek, and I was grinning when I wrote it.

Only a brain dead fool would preclude the possibility of such happening at some point in the future. Such is the nature of humor.

Next time I will conclude my comments with a (TIC), so that I do not offend your tender sensibilities.
