I recently bought three rifles from an individual. 300 pieces of 7 mm RM brass came with and also 200 pieces of 6.5x55. I got around to running the 6.5 through the resizer today, when I discovered a few 257 Roberts in the batch.

One of those 257 cases was head stamped "Peters 7 mm". That is it. No designation of which 7 mm it was. I assume that would be because at the time of manufacture, there was only ONE 7mm available in the US, and possibly abroad.

Anyway, I thought it an interesting tidbit to stumble across.

Back when the 7x57 Mauser was about the only 7MM cartridge around, Remington and I now see Peters also also stamped their brass 7MM and nothing else except brand name because the 7mm Mauser was the only game in town. When I bought my M70 Featherweight at a gun show the guy selling threw in a bunch if fired brass which included a rather plain bright red box with Remington on the side, Remington 7mm Mauser on the end flaps and twenty brand new unprimed cases stamped REM 7MM. I keep it separate but have no idea of collector value. More like a reminder of when life was a hell of a lot simpler. If I were to guess a date, probably about the early to late forties. Cool conversation piece.

Our forefathers did not politely protest the British. They did not vote them out of office, nor did they impeach the king, march on the capitol or ask permission for their rights. ----------------They just shot them.

I will make an educated guess of mid to late 1930's. I don't know if any U.S. manufactured rifles were chambered in 7x57 Mauser prior to that. Win 70's were chambered in 7x57 Mauser and were caliber stamped 7MM.
