Got my second bird (limit in TN) yesterday. It was about 10:30 and I had a hen come in on me and she stayed around till around 1:00. I could not move or call as she was to close to do either. I started out thinking that maybe she would attract a gobbler, but as time went on, I figured that she must have been ugly as homemade sin, because nothing showed up. After she went away I called soft for a little bit but the wind had really picked up, so I called louder. I had a gobbler answer back, but could not tell exactly where he was. I called again to see if I could figure out his location, but he did not answer. I just happened to look to my right and could see him coming down the field about 300 yards away. I could tell he was gobbling as he came but I could not hear him as the wind was blowing toward him. There is a dip in the field and when he went into that, I lost sight of him, so I turned and got ready so when he came out all would be set. I thought that he had enough time to make it thru the dip but I could not see him. About that time I could see the top of his fan as he had broken out in full strut, he was still coming but had slowed down to put on a show. At this point he was about 125 or so yards away and now I could hear him gobble. He was looking hard for the hen that he heard (which was me) At this point he would break out of strut and come a little ways gobble and go back into strut. This went on for about 10 minutes. There was a small roll in the hill to my left that I knew he could not see over. There was more than once that I thought he was going to quit playing and walk off. When that happened, I would cup my hand and light call trying to make it sound like "she" was just over the roll in the hill. That would bring him just a little closer each time. He finally got to the point where I did not think he was going to come anymore. He stood there in that spot for a minute or 2 and had his neck ran out as high as he could get it to try and see over the roll in the hill. The problem was, there was a limb between him and me and I was not sure I could get the shot off and not have a huge load of my shot go into it. I was able to ease up just enough to look down the side of my barrel and make sure I was going to clear the limb. I put the red dot on his head and pulled the trigger. He went down like a lead balloon and did not move. He was 21 lbs, 9.5" beard and 1 1/8" spurs. The reason my season is "almost over" is I am going back this afternoon to try and help my buddy get his second bird, and not I will not be carrying a gun.....lol

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I am still working on mine too. Have had birds come within 60 yards the two days I have hunted and gobble their butts off but I havent shot or even seen them. Just heard them. Seems like I just suck at turkey hunting.

It isn't what happens to you that defines you, it's what you DO about what happens to you that defines you!
