I read somewhere else it was CJD not CWD that jumped.

Yep, just speculation trying to connect dots.

As for the underlying question of whether humans are at risk of contracting CWD from diseased meat, the jury is still out, despite tons of research into the topic. Some researchers have gone so far as to inject folded prions from infected deer into the brains of research animals ranging from monkeys to mice, and haven’t been able to detect cross-species transmission. Others have found some transmission, but that study may have been flawed.

Most researchers say the current public-health advisory from the Centers for Disease Control is sound. It includes recommendations to not shoot sick deer, to wear protective gloves when handling deer, to have animals tested for CWD before eating the meat, and to discard meat from an infected animal in an approved landfill.

Quote
If there’s a lot of uncertainty and disagreement about detecting, slowing, or managing the spread of CWD among scientists, there’s one point of vocal unanimity: hunters must help contain CWD by disposing of deer and elk carcasses properly.

“I think there’s pretty wide agreement that CWD is spread by trucks,” said one biologist. “Either the stock trailers that game farms use to haul live deer or the pickups that hunters use to haul dead deer.”

Each state has its own rules governing carcass transport and disposal, but they often share a few details. Don’t move brain or nervous tissue from one area to another. That’s doubly critical when moving from a CWD endemic area to a state or place where CWD hasn’t been detected, but it’s good practice anytime and everywhere. Don’t discard carcasses on the landscape. Instead, take them to a Class II landfill.

1 "CWD makes the jump to people ?" Thread title.

2 "Chronic wasting disease: Death of 2 hunters in US raises fear of 'zombie deer'" Linked USA Today article title.

3 "Two hunters who ate meat from deer known to have chronic wasting disease − or "zombie deer disease" − developed similar neurological conditions and died, raising concerns that it can pass from animals to humans." First line of USA Today article.

4 "Researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio have reported how two hunters who ate venison from a deer population known to have CWD died in 2022 after developing sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), which is a neurological disease like CWD." From within the article.

I don't know how you get from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1.

Yea, what I gleaned from the article is that two men have died from a disease similar to CWD who may have eaten some deer meat from an area known to contain deer having CWD.

Everything is fake about CWD, just like it was with the COVID-19 Vaccine.

Well pray tell, I sure ain’t referring to dairy bovines or designer wooly arctic pasture pets.

Beef cattle, angus, Herefords, Charolais, etc

So much for the ‘gotcha’

Next we'll hear how a hunter who eats lots of wild game has died of lead poisoning, and that all lead bullets should be banned from use by hunters.

Laws aren't preventative measures. In other words, more laws won't prevent gun crime from happening.

Read the Canadian study from 2017. Macaque monkey's were fed CWD infected meat representing the human equivalent of eating one 7-ounce steak per month and 3 of 5 monkeys in the study got CWD.

It sucks, but (at least to me) it's becoming obvious this is transmissable. If you live in a CWD infected area, have every deer tested before eating it.

Macaques and marmosets have similar immune systems to humans. That's why they typically use them to test human susceptibility to diseases. The study was small, but is concerning.

Psy-op. Create fear and many people beg the government to do something about the black swan event.

More chicken little without some reasonable amount of evidence. What's the real agenda?

Just as likely to be an effort to make people shy away from hunting. Perhaps more so.

The jury is still out on the jump of CWD from inflected deer to humans.

We need a vaccine.

Uh, we already tried that. It killed more suckers than eating deer ever will.

Comments of Junk Science” on CWD!

We want to commend Dr. Jim Heffelfinger for taking a stand! Here is his quote from Outdoor Life, who backed down on this! “This is not a study and this is not a scientific paper,” veteran deer biologist and wildlife science coordinator for the Arizona Game and Fish Department Jim Heffelfinger wrote in an Instagram post Thursday. “The whole thing is only 344 words and is simply a mention about two hunters that died of [Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease] and both of them ate deer from the same deer population. There is no evidence of CWD infecting hunters.” Yet, in reviewing comments made about all this, there are still folks proposing we test all venison before we eat it! Do you realize what that says to the public, and the impact it will have on deer hunting? It would be far better to advise the entire U.S. population to have their genetics tested to see if they have the rare CJD susceptibility gene that could cause spontaneous development of sCJD— just as stupid and rediculous!
