but I stumbled across a used Savage/Anschutz 164 in 22 mag at a somewhat local gun store. Can you knowledgeable rimfire enthusiasts plese school on these rifles?

In my limited research I see some listed as model 164M, going on memory (never a good thing) I think I rememer the tag saying Model 164CM? Is that possible.

What is a ballpark value for this model?

Great rifles. Bought one as my first serious Fox hunting rifle.
Model 164 was the Anschutz 22lr and the 164M was their 22 mag. I've never heard of a 164CM.
Ball park for one in nice shape I've seen sell any where from $750 to $900.
Savage contracted to import the Anschutz rifles back in I believe the 60's.

Out of curiosity, what was the asking price? Not that I need one either. LOL
They always were one of my favorite rimfires, especially in 22 mag. Great looking design and nice and light.

It's probably just an M. Interestingly, it has a Weatherby scope on it, which also caught my eye. Did not know that was a thing.

Asking $649. It has a few beauty marks. Sounds like it might be in the ballpark.

That's a decent price, you should grab that one.

Yep I’d grab that in a heart beat - the scopes are going for $250-300 and the rifles are $500+ so if they are in good to excellent condition I wouldn’t waste much time getting the cash out of my wallet. The one I have shoots Hornady 30 grain v-max in tiny little groups (one lot anyway)!

I haven’t seen a .22 Magnum version in years, but the ones we sold in the 70’s were nice rifles and pretty accurate as I recall. We sold four or five of them over the course of a couple of years, never saw one traded back to us. They weren’t real popular, the .22 Mag had a limited appeal in South Carolina back then, except for low country folks using them for deer culls.
