Just to stir the pot and keep this conversation interesting. I wouldn't ever buy anything with those awful hideous black rubber butt pads. The red ones were so much easier on the eyes and cooler. And I never saw the attraction of, or any common sense in stainless and wood. A rifle should be blued steel and wood or stainless and synthetic. Flame it...

That XTR 257 is calling to me.
There was a Gander Mountain in Fredericksburg Virginia. They had a closeout on these around the 2008 timeframe. I could’ve bought a lot of these stainless walnut guns for just over $600. NIB. The manager (member here) said he would pull one caliber of each and hold them for me. I loved the look of them. I just bought 2. Both 270s.

All featherweights. Am I the only one that really prefers the old Classic? I like .30-06 and 7mm RM....I don't want "light" to be part of the gun features.
