Ran over my own dog and didn't stop.

If he is too stupid to move out the way when I'm backing the truck out the driveway, he really ain't worth keeping in my mind.

Unless it looks like they might come over the hood, I don't leave the road for animals....

If I can avoid them and stay on pavement I will try.

Squirrels???? I don't even twitch..... hell, they don't even know which way to run.

I have hit a dog, heavy, hard thunk... looked in the rearview and he was doing slow 360s on his side.... I didn't stop!

Heading home from work one day, N Florida, swampy area, saw an otter crossing the road, looked like he was doin just fine, was gonna be a clean miss.... 'til he stopped, stood up on his hind end and stared at me, same lane........... oh well!

Does the rancher who shoots a dog harassing his livestock try to get in touch with the ’owner’? I Hit someone’s stupid dog who had taken up chasing people’s cars. It finally caught my truck and got a broken leg for the effort. Too many houses to try and track down who the irresponsible owner was. I suppose the dog limped home. My buddy swerved for a dog on the interstate and got a rolled jeep and an ejected/severely injured wife along with thousands of dollars in medical expenses for his efforts. I don’t swerve to miss wayward dogs, or deer for that matter, paste them square on! If you aren’t a responsible owner, then your road pizza of a flattened dog is on you.

I've shot 3 dogs for chasing my cattle. One was pulling a calf under the fence. I didn't contact the owners. I have a 3 legged gwp due to her chasing vehicles.

If the dog is running at large and is hit in a road by a car, the dog owner is liable for the damages to the car.

The first time it was a little wiener dog on a major street with no houses and I was just a kid. Probably 16 or 17. I stopped and got out and looked at it, it was dead. I just left because the dog had no tags and I had no idea who it belonged to. The only other time it was right in front of the owners house and they were sitting on the porch. Again the dog was dead. I stopped and got out and apologized. The owner told me it wasn't my fault and that I shouldn't worry. He saw what happened.

I don't like dogs in my pastures or in the road. I wouldn't stop and wouldn't give a damn if I ran over someone's dog in the road or killed it in my pastures. Having a confrontation over a dog at my age wouldn't end well for anyone.

Fuggin hilarious!

The 24HCF strikes yet again.

The 24HCF when it comes to hunting - "I try to dispatch game animals with respect and dignity as fast and as humane as possible."

The 24HCF when it comes to a strangers dog, "Fugg you and your fur baby! I'ma drive off and leave the stupid thing!"

The 24HCF when someones dog dies, "I'm so sorry. They become family, don't they?"

Scott Thornley, I have to agree with you 100%.

Let's not forget.

"I ran over my own dog and didn't stop!"

and

"I would stop to see if my vehicle was ok."

I'd check on the dog.
Maybe needs to be put outa misery.
Also, I'd try to find the owner if there was an obvious house. Kids seeing fluffy with FORD imprinted across it ain't cool.

Let us not forget, "It could result in assault, or even murder!"

Last dogs I ran over was one night, after my bow shooting weekly meeting, in 1991. They jumped out of a weedy ditch with zero warning. Heard them thumping all the way back under my NEW one month old Oldsmobile.

The last thing they would have wanted, was me knocking on doors in search of the owner. I was pizzed and it cost $500 for the insurance deductible, for them letting the dogs run loose.

Worse was how I felt about the new car needing repairs. Kind of like being married one month, and your wife cheated on you. Things will never be the same.
