A fella is offering a VX3 Tactical, 30mm, Side focus, mildot, and turrets. $625 shipped
Is the VX3 comparable to the MK4? What's the difference?
Thank God for Mississippi!

The only Real MKIV's are the fixed 10 and 16 and the 3.5-10M3. The others are renamed VXIII's.

Just found out that it's a Tactical Vari-X III with the covered Target turrets. 4.5-14x50 , side parallax adj, custom mil-dot reticle.
Thank God for Mississippi!

It would seem to me that if it has "covered" target turrets then it's not a tactical. I have a VX-3 with side-focus that I sent to Leupold and had the Mark-4 tactical turrets installed and they are exposed with big 'ol knobs with degradations easily read from the outside. The performance of my scope is superb (6.5-20x). However, $625 is a steal.
BTW....Thank God for Arkansas....we took your coach! Go Rebs!

You can have him! He's alright I guess, just not that great at picking future talent. Also makes some pretty goofy decisions when the heat is on.
The scope seems to be a Tactical, it has the blacked-out gold band.

Tactical... M1, M2, or M3 knobs Target... target turrets (which are covered and often 1/8" clicks)
There is a lot of confusion out there with the older LR/T scopes... does the 't' stand for tactical or target?
Is that a good price? Depends on whether you like the knobs on that particular scope or not. The glass in the old vari x-III's is not on par with the Mark IV scopes. However, the new VXIII's and the Mark IV scopes have identical glass and housings.
As far as functionality, the scope should be more than adequate for long range applications.

Another thought...
You can pick up one of the VX III LR scopes and send it back to leupold for them to install M1 knobs for $130. I've got one I'm going to do that with currently.

Maniac is right and they can install mil-dot or tactical milling reticle if you prefer. I have the latter and just took a deer with that scope (with M-1 knobs) just last week. They offer those services and then some for all Vari-X III scopes. Mine is silver with those big, ugly black knobs. Really ugly scope but it is DEAD-ON!

Its an older VariX3 Tactical, forerunner to the MK4 PR series. 30mm, side focus, capped 1/4MOA target knobs...
$625 is a good deal, and if its the guy I think it is thats selling it, he is GTG.

Regardless of what it's called it is a very good scope. I have one and it is a great scope.

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

I don't know much about Petrino personally but I'm hoping he's got the goods. He has a lot of experience with the big boys. I guess we'll see next Oct-Nov.
Thank God for Mississippi!
