Last week in Missouri we smashed 4 gobblers, two wads were recovered after the shot. Both had 5-9 #9 TSS shot stuck in the bottom of the wads. Have never seen this before. Anyone have some help to prevent this ??

Not uncommon, it happens with all shot types at times. The larger the shot, the less likely and/or frequently it happens. Don't worry about it as there is no way of predicting if this will occur nor anything one can do about it.

Ten 4, have loaded prob 1k tss shells. Have only ever looked at a handful of the wads, so have no clue how often it happened. Not going to get to concerned about it I guess.

I have mostly noticed this when cleaning up the patterning board area of a couple ranges I am a member of. It has occurred with many different brands with no single brand sticking out in my mind. I suspect it has much to do with the particular softness/hardness of an individual wad coupled with vagracies in peak pressure and/or the rate at wich the peak pressure was reached. It also was seen more frequently with lead shot than with steel which may be due to the density of the shot causing greater setback upon firing. The combination of factors may be why your particular lot of shells had some pellets remaining embedded in the wad - a different lots may have fewer or even more embedded pellets than encountered.

Back when I was chasing the "perfect" pattern I would obsess when a single pellet stuck in the wad, I eventually learned that even a handful of pellets had little practical affect on patterns in most cases due to this happening with smaller shot where there were "extra" pellets.
