Wasn't it 66 or 67 that in a Chevy 2 SS, the top of the line engine was the 365 or 375 HP, 327ci engine that was also put in the base Corvette?
with a 4: 11 rear engine, that thing would really take off down the road, burning rubber all the way...
Top Dog RPO L-79 327 was rated at 350 HP in the 66 Chevy II (aka Nova)... when they arrived at Nickey Chevrolet (with the Backwards K) in Chicago, legend has it they called out MR Norm's Top Hemi Race car to a street race at 3 am on a Chicago Expressway... the slightly tweaked Nova beat the Hemi 2 outta 3... Bill Jenkins then went on to prove it on the Strip... "Grumpy's Toy"...

I had a ‘67 Corvette convertible with that engine and for that time, it would scoot. 370 rear end and a close-ratio 4 speed. 😁

The OP wasn't meant to be a dick measuring contest. My buddy bought a '65 Chevy that was probably originally sold as a budget friendly American family car. One that can be souped up a bit and made to be a sort of classic fun hotrod. He drives it maybe 7 months a year for fun and for non-truck transportation. Will it do a buck in a second? Nope. Does it sound like a freight train that shakes your liver and vibrates the stands you paid money to sit in and watch? Nope. Did it cost half a million dollars and run on nitro and have flames blasting out of the pipes off the line and require a team of people to get it to run at a closed track at insane speeds? Nope. Is it a fun as hell hobby car from what some consider to be the prime era of American muscle cars? I think so. Humbly, I'd opine that some of you need to stop taking yourselves so seriously <waves at Sal>
I'ts a kind of cool mid 60s car my buddy owns and likes to lay rubber down with in between commuting to work with in warm weather. It's street legal and does double duty. No more.
Thanks to those sharing some memories of their own cars.
the 65 like the one in the vid is my favorite yr of the early Chevy II's... i was given a decent 63 2 dr hardtop when i was 12, by the time got it running at 15 i realized it was too far gone (rust) for my skills, time & $$$... sold it for $300 in the early 80's... seen it in town several yrs later... straight axle gasser style, small block with a Tunnel Ram & twin 4150's stickin' thru the hood... Dam! that stuck in my craw...
