Holy grail rifle for collectors here, https://hindmanauctions.com/items/1...0-featherweight-super-grade-rifle-in-243

Some other damn fine rifles and pistols including a Colt with chain of custody tying it to being at the battle of Little Bighorn. https://hindmanauctions.com/items/1...y-likely-picked-up-at-the-little-bighorn

If I’m reading it right the stock has been bedded, be nice to see a pic of the front sight

The receiver looks like it's loose in the stock. Wondering how the bedding looks. Keeping in mind, that reduces the value. The barrel also looks freefloated, which was not factory. Pictures of the underside of the barreled action is almost a must, when considering a SG. The rust freckling is what concerns me the most. I don't like rusty guns, especially if it's a Supergrade. I agree with you about the front sight too.

A truly hacked up by an amateur bedding / freefloat job! The overall finish of the entire gun does not look quite right to me. M70's; especially SuperGrades usually impress me from a distance. It may be the photographer?

ETA: I am going to study The Rifleman's Rifle and see just what features 1957 SuperGrade Featherweights had. The pic of the serial number up close shows possible refinish or touched up checkering. It is not the easiest site to get bigger pictures, for me anyway.

Well according to Rule, the only front sight on the SGFwt is the Redfield 255 in the same size as the standards. The barrel might brighten up and smooth out with a nice coat of oil, perhaps not; it may be the pics. I don't like the finish on the wood; too dull, doesn't impress me as much as a nice standard. The estimate $3,000-$5,000 makes me think that they think it has issues. I would think a SuperGrade Featherweight in 243 would fetch over $5,000 today??? It is the first I ever saw or even heard advertised. You see a bunch of 270's, perhaps the same 270 listed over the years on different venues and a couple in 30-06. You just don't see many pre 64 70's period unless you travel far and wide.
