Have a bet with a buddy and Google search is a little unclear.

I can find folks saying you can and cannot.

They would be coming a Mexican vacation?

I know people who have, they simply pull the rings off and swear they're Honduran.

That said - Cubans I've had weren't necessarily miles above a good Honduran for example. I think the allure is 90% it being Cuba and verbotten and 10% product it seems.

If they're going to pick them up in Mexico at anywhere other than a Habanos SA registered store they're likely to be fakes, particularly if they're alleged to be Cohibas.

I was in Argentina years ago. I saw a person buy a lot of Cubans. The seller took off the rings and replaced them with a non Cuban ring. Then the seller mailed the rings to him in the USA. It’s not me, I don’t smoke, period.

This.

The common underlying accepted practice and ideology in Mexico Is that it's okay to rip off the gringo.

Smuggler cigars....

Just tell customs that they are undocumented and ask for their free debit card.

Or bring in your own Cuban "refugee" to roll cigars out in the milk shed.

Tried a Cuban cigar.

Tried a white owl cigar I got for 99 cents.

The next morning after each, tasted like a cat shît in my mouth.

Smuggling 101 right there.

And it is smuggling and therefore illegal.

When Cuba was open to American tourists I took the kids to see socialism. A lesson that could not be taught any better then by seeing it with their own eyes. I brought back Cuban cigars and Cuban rum. I think we were allowed a certain amount. I still have the bottle of rum. I gave the cigars away to friends. If its still legal to bring it back now? Probably not since travel there is back off I think. Canadians can still go since their PM is the son of Castro. Lol

Yes it is legal to bring Cubans into the US for personal consumption if purchased in countries where they are legal. It is legal to give them away to others. It is not legal to sell them.

As above, don't buy from the guy on the beach, don't buy from resort cigar stores, don't buy from small town stores. Buy only from La Casa del Habanos stores unless you really know how to ID fakes.

Well he bought a pack of 5 from some dude at the beach. He said he gave $30 bucks for the pack. He said they were marked as Cohibas so as others have said, I’m pretty sure they are fake.

He comes back next week sometime so we will see if he gets them through customs. He is going to declare them.

Cuban seed has been imported to all cigar growing regions and many Dominican and Honduran cigars are arguably if not factually better than Cubans. The rest of the cigar producing world caught up to Cuba by the 1990’s. They basically exist on mystique alone.

Almost certainly not genuine, and probably paid twice their actual value.

You must have got a good one then. Most don't taste that good.

I wouldn't buy anything to consume outside of a conventional storefront. No shady beach deals or friends of a resort concierge because you don't know that they aren't spiked with fentanyl. The risk isn't worth it.
