Internet taxes on out-of-state sales has been in the news, or was a few months back.
States are p.o'd. that a guy in Arkansas can buy a pair of LL Bean boots and not pay state taxes. Maine gets the nut.
However, Orivis (and maybe other stores) who have outlets in your state will charge you state taxes, just as if you've bougth from the store.
There is a lot of legislation that has been floated, including the infamous internet tax, to try to keep purchasing money in the state where it's spent.
I suspect this will someday be a Nationwide movement for tax collection. You alredy pay the Federal Tax when you buy sporting good equipment, you just don't pay any state taxes if purchased on-line and out of state. (With exceptions.)
