I was out and about, and saw a like new XTR FWT in 6.5x55, with iron sights. The price was $850.00, but could probably take it home for $800.00. That rifle is a pretty rare and desirable one, so I didn't think the price was out of line. I also saw a few pre 64's hanging on a wall. One that was in what looks like a Brown Precision, the next a pre war, and the other one an all original 375H&H: I think out of those 3, the pre war was probably the best deal. Not the most original, but it was not priced too badly: Considering the Leupold could be sold for $350.00 The 375 H&H was all original, and pretty nice. Price was $2,495.95
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

All very reasonable. You have more self control than I possess. I’d have left with that transition. 😬
That brown looks to be rebarreled. What was the chambering?

That brown looks to be rebarreled. What was the chambering? It was coated, but poorly done. And yes, a custom barrel. That is actually the only one I picked up and examined, since it looks similar to 2 of my rifles. After I saw the coating was scratched on the barrel, the side not shown, I put it back. I think it was a 7mm rem mag, but can't remember, to tell you the truth. I also wish I would have taken pics of the XTR FWT. I believe those were made in 1986, and a special run. Mainly for the European market? That rifle was a beauty, and priced very fairly. Others here would know more about that XTR, as I know they have been brought up a few times here.

Someone here just bought that 375 H&H. I look forward to hearing how it works out!! That was the nicer one of the bunch, and I believe it was all original. Missing the front sight hood, is all I could see. Probably better condition than most 375's I've seen in a while. Now I wish I would have pulled it down and looked at the other side, for a better description. Maybe the new owner will start a thread on it, or let us know here what he thinks of it?

I believe the 6.5x55 w/ sights was a "European Featherweight" made in 1986. It was a run of 400. I have one and that's the info I collected on it from the S.P. Fjestad Blue book of gun values from several years ago. I do not remember the year of the book, maybe 1995. It (the book) got sent on its way a long time ago during a house purge.

That is good info. I knew they were very rare. Made in '86 sounds right. The one I saw is damn tempting!!! I don't think it's been shot much either.

I have the "euro" Sporter version. That is a nice rifle, just not as nice as a comparable FWT.

And with a cartridge like the 6.5x55, that is even more of a good thing. You probably wouldn't want to take me up on a bet, would you? Not that I have the rifle in hand. I sure wished I did now... I have a 270 fwt that I've never even loaded for, I'd shoot that against your 6.5x55 . That's how convinced I am that your rifle would not fare as well.

The .375 purchaser was indeed lucky. The only thing better than personal 'in hand' examination, an expert like BSA literally doing it for you! What luck. Even a couple of decades ago as I'd largely stopped paying attention, $25Bills wouldn't have been a bad deal "as evaluated!" Congrats & Best! John
