One of the tactics I see employed by Antifa and Pro-Hamas protestors is the use of pepper spray against someone they disagree with. But I can't say I've ever seen charges for it. I'd think that's a necessary response to someone violently assaulting someone using a noxious, incapacitating weapon.

In Canada there is a specific section of our criminal laws that deals with this. While pepper spray is illegal to have for self-defense against people, it's perfectly legal to carry for dogs, bears etc. So it's here and available, but I don't see a lot of instances of it being used during protests because they'd get wrapped up for it.

I wonder why the US doesn't have or enforce similar laws?

I believe strongly that pepper should be used for self defense- - - - -whole peppercorns from a 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge at a range of about six feet! Make it an effective deterrent to any further aggression!

The Canadian pepper/bear spray thing I find amusing.

The last time we drove down Customs asked if we had pepper spray. My wife almost panicked as she had not taken her bear spray out of her fanny pack and went out to get it while Customs started the paperwork to confiscate it. She came in with it, Customs looked at the label, and told her she could keep it as it was labeled bear spray. Then they had to do more paperwork to cancel out the stuff they had started.

They did make me take my rifle ammo out of the case and keep it separate from the rifle tho.

Ain't beaurocracy wonderful? smile

At least Canadian customs folks are polite and friendly, unlike most of the surly US ones I have dealt with
