I've been hunting for 40 years and swapping guns for 30. Been dreaming of a carbine-length .358 for most of my adult life. Had both the fish-bellied BLR and a reworked win 88, and even had the kissing cousin--Win 94 in .356, but I never warmed up to those guns.
Checked into rebarreling a Savage 99, but the combined cost of a donor rifle and the rebarrel service was out of my range.
Checked into rechambering a .35 rem Marlin 336 to .356. Some swear by it, others swear at it. Some are scared of high pressure in the standard Marlin receiver, other scoff. I ultimately sold my carbine to a friend before having it rechambered.
Last summer, I found a .35 rem Remington pump at our local gun show. It was cosmetically rough, but is a good shooter. I just dropped it at Gander Mountain to be rechambered to .358 and shortened to carbine length. I'm looking at a new 1x4 Leupold, but may top it with a 2x7 Leupold on one of my other guns. Look for my range reports in a couple months. I'm excited as a kid before Christmas.

Sounds like a good project, you may wanna also consider having them put a matte finish on all the wood and metal as well..?
Show us pics when it is done will ya?

Might want check with Whelen Nut here, he's done the same thing and is a man on a mission when it comes to his pumps and 35 calibers.

Dober Here's the gun. I swapped the buttstock from a youth model 20ga 870. It's wearing a weaver V1x3 and weighs 6 1/4 lb empty. This is it's favorite load, so far. 48gr IMR 4895, 200gr RN corelokt 1.25" @ 100yds.

That penn. machine gun has dead deer/black bear written all over it. Congrats on the 358. A big woods gun, from Yesteryear.

What a sweet rifle! I really like those pumps, and paid a fortune for a carbine length .35 rem, from Grice a couple years ago. I got in a way wanting something else, and sold it to a member here at the campfire, but I will always have a place for one of those in the safe.
Still kick myself for not buying one of the carbine length police rifles they used to chamber in .308. Oh well,

Thats a slick looking gun right there. I also like the youth stock. I read an article a couple of years ago about using a youth model slug gun stating that after heavy jackets and clothes it fits better. Well it is true and feels comfortable coming to the shoulder. Good luck with the gun
CT, check gunbroker as I see the rifle your talking about on there from time to time
