Even SAG minimum day rate for movies gets tedious after awhile.

Did one where I got that, ($570 a day) plus armourer pay. Was still glad to see it end.

I was an extra in a movie in Savannah in 1978. Named Carny, starring Jodie Foster and Gary Busie, and Robbie Robertson [of The Band]. As it was filmed in a carnival, it was shot entirely at night. We showed up at 7pm and left work at 5 am. $25 per night. But that's not all, at 2 am we got dinner, a 3 piece box of crispy Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The stars each had a 40 foot long trailer where they stayed. I can still see the director telling the gopher, "Please tell Mr. Busie and Mr. Robertson they are needed on set."

3am. The nerd went to Gary's trailer and knocked on the door, in a minute out came Gary and Robbie, staggering down the stairs of the trailer and wiping a white powder from their nose.

I know a guy who has a little gun shop in Calgary. His slogan is “Yes, it is your grandfather’s gun store!”

There was a time where he delivered pizzas at night to keep the store open. Then he got an armorer job on one of the productions filmed in the Calgary area. He soon had a vibrant side hustle. He’s a millionaire now. I don’t know how many millions. Took him 25-30 years.

He still has the store, but he has either sold the armorer company or hired people to run it. He putters around the shop, goes to gun shows and winters in Lake Havasu Arizona.

He’s done well. Worked like a dog to get his money.

Lot of famous actors started as an extra. Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood, Channing Tatum, Renee Zellweger, Harrison Ford... You'll never be noticed from a resume.

Here I am onscreen with Jody, filming Carny in Savannah. I am front left with the red plaid shirt. Jody and I were onscreen together for about 12.5 seconds.

I know a dark haired beauty that modeled and then appeared in rock videos. Paid her very well.

Dang Bob, Can’t believe you passed on a chance to work with ole “Sling Blade” Billy Bob Thornton and Patrick Swayze’s little brother. 😜

Kinda like any job. If you take it for what they offer, then don’t bitch about the pay after. If you don’t like the offered pay, then don’t take the job.

What cha think ?

I think that's $150 a day some people would otherwise not get.

And they wind-up with some stories to tell.

And maybe get laid.

So, what's not to like?

The cool thing about America is you get to choose where you work. If you don't like the job or the pay, take it up with the person who took the job in the first place.
You might be shocked to find out some people volunteer at places to work for free.

It would be a cool experience for sure.
A couple years ago came across Costner’s production company filming northwest of Moab while out 4 wheeling. I knew nothing about his new movie or that they were in the area.
