Years ago I had a M99 with a 20 inch barrel. Chronied the 100 gr. Remington PSPCL and got an average of 2604 fps for three shots. It did kill a few deer but it got traded off before I could load any ammo for it. Was that about what factory loads averaged in the 250? Never once did I see any other 250 Savage ammo on the shelf. Of course I bought four boxes of the 100 grain load and didn't look much after that. Traded the rifle with some of that ammo that was left and every empty case.

Well since everyone left you hanging so far....

Feel free to ignore as I don't have any first-hand experience so FWIW - I looked up load data for 100grain in 250 and that speed is better than plurality of minimum charges listed. I assume that data is also for standard 24 inch barrels so you could likely add another 50-100fps or so in a bolt rifle.

Seems like a good match that rifle as shots are likely closer and the bullet would perform great in that instance. I use similar for my 260 with softer Sierra's and it works flawlessly at the more common shorter ranges for me.

250 is a sweet round in a 99.

Nobody left him hanging, its a fact that info is easily found if one tries.

Newton recommended loading 100 grain (6.5 g) bullets at 2,800 ft/s (850 m/s); but Savage Arms reduced bullet weight to obtain a velocity of 3,000 ft/s (910 m/s), making it the first American cartridge capable of that velocity. Achieving that velocity may have been the reason for the choice of the light-for-caliber 87-grain (5.6 g) bullet

Factory Ammunition
Both Remington and Winchester produce 100 grain soft point loads for the .250 Savage at an advertised 2820fps (24” test barrels) for realistic velocities in 22” barrels of around 2750fps. Both are adequate lighter medium game loads when used with care.

Heres a link that takes you right to the page on the 250. Links were compiled by Waders.

Lots more goodies here. Thanks Waders

Not factory but here's some loads my 250's like:

250 Remington 700 Classic, 87 grain SPEER Hot Core, 34 grains Varget, 0.80 MOA
250 Remington 700 Classic, 100 grin SPEER Hot Core, 35 grains H4895, 0.45 MOA

250 Savage 99 (1 in 14" twist) 87 grain SPEER Hot Core, 34 Grains Varget, 1.06MOA*
250 Savage 99 (1 in 14" twist) 87 grain SPEER Hot Core, 34.5 Grains IMR4895, 1.11 MOA
250 Savage 99 (1 in 14" twist) 87 grain Hornady Interlock, 34.5 Grains IMR4895, 1.46 MOA
250 Savage 99 (1 in 14" twist) 100 grain SPEER Hot Core, 35 Grains H4895, 1.48 MOA

I have not worked with these two a lot. I've sold the 99 and will be working with the 700 Classic a bit this summer. I have not looked for any factory loads. I suspect they might be loaded down a bit.

* This load seemed warm in the 99.

I prefer classic.

I was really interested in weather a 6ARC could match factory 250 Savage velocities with reloads at levergun pressures. Seems it can get near 2700 fps with Hornady factory loads and slightly heavier than 100 grain bullets. Plus my chrony results were recorded on a rent a chrony at a gun range that no longer exists. The data had to be compiled in the 80's. Yes reload data is common.
