That's a beautiful rifle. I prefer the ones with the metal butt plate, like yours. GLWS!

Thanks for your comment. I just added a lot more pics on GI. I bought this rifle because I have a great admiration for Jack O'Connor, have read many of his books and own quite a few P64s. I started reading his articles in the mid 60s, and he is the reason I am a rifle nut I guess. I am too old to hunt anymore (80), plus I have cancer, so decided I should to unwind some of my rifles. I keep giving my 2 sons various P64s as they visit, as they both love these rifles too. Thanks for looking at this special JOC rifle. Gib

Wish the acquisition announcement was accompanied by a few good pix. Great when you can get a Model 70 commemorative you revere and especially one that's itself handsome! As far as Jack O. is concerned, we're amidst the generations of "Say Who?" in respect of any one/thing over a few years old. Buying for yourself/interests, go for it. As investment, anyone know how many offered as function of numbers sold?

War story! If it was 1972, Marlin was intro'ing their Zane Grey Commemorative dedicated to memory of that well known Western Author. It flopped! About two thirds (?) of the projected 10K sold and many at "close out". Tapered octagon barrels, 22" in 30-30 left adrift. In Zane's namesake wake, some several thousand such barrels. Emerged the Marlin "Octagon" model. Handsome straight grip lever stock and a rifle which sold better, if at a loss. The specialized barrel making machinery investment compounding the matter. I have one of those Octagons and revere it for the rifle configuration it is. The Zane models are yet floating around out there, but flunking the "Commemorative value appreciation" test! I've acquired several differing Commemoratives, 'at a price', but each for some unique feature rather than the personage/event they heralded!
That said, now, if Mr. Justice Kennedy, (Heller Case pivotal vote) as U.S. Supreme Court retired since 2018 is ever the subject of Commemoration let me know! Promptly please! smile

Most any Winchester Model 70 would appeal to me, but where paying a premium; "something special" as 'rubber meets the road'!
Just my take!
Best!
John

Thanks nyrifleman, AK and BSA for your comments, and to AK for posting the pic and link. This site makes it difficult for me. My cancer is metastatic prostate (spread to bones), but seems to be under control after a variety of treatments undergone since last summer. Modern medicine is amazing.

This rifle feels really good in your hands, and articles on the internet confirm their accuracy. It's not a custom Biesen, but it has good proportions like his...and the checkering is very sharp so it feels right. If anyone wants more pics I will be glad to send them. Also, I will consider offers. Reduced price to $2850.

Dang. I just kinda forgot about the one I owned. In my opinion, they are the beat production wood/blue rifle of all time. Mine would put 130 interlocks with 59 grains of h4831 in a ragged hole at 100. Point like a dream, and yes the metal butt plate rifles are the real deal. Glws. Don't come up very often guys!

If you call the museum in Lewiston, the voucher is good for a free rifle case. I never did it and confirmed there are two left. Good addition to that rifle!
