Temperature has nothing to do with it. It is darker in winter which makes it far easier to see. Also, skies tend to be clearer in winter.

At roughly 50 degrees north (Seattle to NYC, roughly) there is some level of Aurora almost 300 nights per year. Light pollution and being very low on the horizon makes them hard to see.

An Extreme G4 Solar Storm Train, Eight Storms Race to Earth | Space Weather Spotlight 10 May 2024
YouTube channel: Dr.Tamitha Skov

May 10, 2024

The first solar storm in this train has hit! The storm is quite fast so the initial impact caused a momentary G4-level response.
00:00:00 | Introduction
00:00:19 | Solar Events Synopsis
00:04:59 | 8th Earth-Directed Solar Storm Launch (just today)
00:05:08 | Close up and Personal with Region 3664 and 3668
00:06:47 | Radio Blackout Threat Meter
00:08:46 | The Solar Storm Train and Prediction Models
00:13:19 | Moon Phase
00:13:36 | Solar Storm and Aurora 5-day Outlooks
00:16:04 | Solar Flare and Dayside Radio Blackout 5-Day Outlook
00:17:19 | Radiation Storm and Polar Aviation 5-Day Outlook
00:18:29 | Summary

Right now we are sitting at G3+ levels due to a strong, but wildly fluctuating magnetic field. This is expected while we travel through the "turbulent" outer envelope of this fast-moving storm. Aurora views will likely grace the skies tonight through the weekend as this series of storms hit back-to-back. Learn the details of how this solar storm train came about, learn where and when aurora will be visible, discover how these storms are impacting communications and navigation around the globe, and find out how they might impact you.

Before it reaches earth, everyone should put on your computer screen your current account statement at your bank, then screen shot it (including time and date), then print out a hard copy.

God forbid this thing messes with the bank's computer system, you have a hard copy to show what you had in your account.

A little different than the other picture prediction. I can't get the pics to copy correctly, so you'll have to click on the link

I’ve seen them a number of times. A few over Lake Superior were cool most of the others were faint. Only one was really impressive. 15-16 years ago for whatever reason they were exceptionally bright that night. Driving home from Lansing to Bay City a large chunk or the sky was lit up.

Living in Alaska all those years it became a little mundane.
Except when they particularly strong or colorful.
Guess there’s quite tourists business now, Japanese and Chinese coming over in the winter just to see the display. Good for the economy during winter doldrums.

Wow, I can see it out right now! It's not the super dramatic like curtains of light that you see pictures of, but like glowing red and greenish clouds. This is in Kentucky. Pretty dang cool

The sky is pink and green here right now. It's not "streaking" yet though. Hope it gets better!

We’re still 4 hours from sunset here. The another hour+ for twilight.

Plus, it’s cloudy. (of course)

There were some really spectacular moments here. One particular moment where it was the classic curtain of light. The kids loved it!
