Reportedly Andy wasn't as nice a person as portrayed on TV. Seems a lot of the actors really didn't like him, some even hated him.
I know he was a big lib and it dawned on me one day what he was up to. He was the show, produced, wrote and acted in it. It reflected who and what he was.
He was the adult in a group of idiots and incompetents. He was a LEO, who with just the power of his personality and his sense of right, performed those duties, never needing a firearm.
Isn't that the Lib persona, their intelligence among the unwashed masses (us), who if they (we) only listened to those who know, everything would work out. Well, wasn't that roughly the theme?
His cool "awe shucks" demeanor had everyone eating out of his hand, including the audience. After that realization, it was harder for me to sit back and enjoy the show. I got the feeling we were all being played.
Any thoughts on that?

According to his bio in imdb.com, he was born in North Carolina and graduated from the University of No. Carolina. A good ol' southron boy. I only met him once but I knew several people who worked with him. They said he was an azzhole. FWIW. L.W.

I know he was in the long running 'The lost Colony' play at Manteo in his early career.

Andy was bonking his showtime girlfriend in real life, while he was married!
Oh the humanity. What gets me was she was the least attractive of all the girlfriends he had on that show and thats the one he snags? Miss Ellie or Peggy for the win! The one that will put out usually gets a lot of attention KC

Wrong, he and Don got more than any ten random posters on this thread ever have. She was mentioned in episode one. It was the whole premise, in fact, i.e., Opie having to deal with the loss of his mother, and Aunt Bee being sent for to be a sort of substitute for her. That wasn’t Opie’s mom…it was Rose, the previous house keeper, who got married.

Wrong, he and Don got more than any ten random posters on this thread ever have. Could you imagine hearing dirty sex talk from Don Knotts? In that voice? Talking about how he'd punish her for being a bad girl.

I've stood in Andy Griffith's driveway on Roanke Island, NC. His last wife still lives there from I understand.
